Tony Bohn: Advice for Mentors

This week, we are proud to continue featuring segments from our interview with Tony Bohn, Chief Human Resources Officer at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky. Since the America’s Healthcare Leaders platform is primarily focused on mentorship and helping leaders achieve greater success, it is only fitting that Bohn share some advice for mentors.

Bohn offers two specific pieces of advice for those who choose to mentor:

  1. Mentors should be constructive in their advice and feedback while being direct. Don’t be too nice. Bohn remarks that occasionally, in order to spare people’s feelings, we limit them from growing and developing. He says to always acknowledge the “derailers” in somebody’s path and approach these head on.
  2. As a mentor, you must have really strong intuitive personal skills where you can relate to an individual, not just on a work level, but on a personal and spiritual level.

Dan Nielsen and Bohn continue to discuss the importance of mentorship and becoming an inspirational leader.
