Eric Barber on Being an Inspirational Leader

This week, we are continuing the interviews with Eric Barber, president and CEO of Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings Nebraska. Today we are featuring three different segments from the interview and focusing on Barber’s view of being an inspirational leader.

America’s Healthcare Leaders founder and CEO Dan Nielsen begins the interview by asking Barber, “What do you believe is your core competency?”

Barber responds that being an inspirational leader is what he believes to be his core competency.

“Managing is inspiring others to get done what you know needs to get done. I am able to get a group to work together toward a common goal.”

Barber then discusses bringing passion to the task and creating collaborative arrangements.

In the second segment Barber is asked how he deals with “naysayers.” Barber states that expectations are clear and he gives all a chance to succeed or fail.

In the final segment, Barber is asked what is his #1 “non-negotiable” as a healthcare leader.  According to Barber, patient safety is the #1 priority, and he has instituted certain protocols to make sure it remains this way.
