Dan Ford: A Patient Advocacy Journey

In today’s videos, Dan Ford shares more specifics about how he became a patient safety advocate and the hot buttons he believes everyone should know and be aware of if a safety issue arises.

In the first video Ford discusses how this was a “do it yourself journey” planting seeds for constructive change. That effort spurred the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) to invite Ford to sit on a taskforce as a patient advocate, as he was respected by many in the healthcare field.

In the second video, Ford discusses hot buttons and how to reduce and handle medical errors when they occur. Some of the hot buttons Ford shares include:

  • Leadership from the top down, starting with the Board
  • Front-line nursing staff
  • Decisions that are right and morally correct
  • Education early in the career of those involved in patient care
