We conclude this week with two more segments from America’s Healthcare Leader Joel Allison. If you have missed any of the previous segments from Joel Allison, we encourage you to go view them as they contain wonderful insight and advice for anybody in healthcare. In today’s segments, Allison reinforces the importance of mentors and leadership virtues.
In the first segment, Allison comments on mentors, saying:
“I am a big believer in mentors. I still have mentors. I think men and women in any field need mentors because it give you someone to talk to.”
With this in mind, Allison also gives a word of caution to those seeking mentors:
“Have mentors, but be wise in choosing your mentors, because who you choose will have a lot to do with the type of advice you will get.”
A mentor will have a tremendous impact on your life—personally and professionally—but this impact can be negative or positive depending on the person you choose. Make sure you choose your mentors wisely!
In the second segment Dan Nielsen asks, “What are some virtues that people should think about and strive toward?”
Allison responds with this list: have integrity, be humble, have a sense of humor, be energetic, be passionate, have compassion, be authentic, be competent, have vision, and be able to communicate.
What is on your list of leadership virtues and how does it compare to the list above?
