Traci Bernard on the Tremendous Influence of Mentors

In today’s video segment we again address a topic many of our featured leaders have passionately discussed: the incredible value and tremendous influence of mentors.

When asked about the mentors who have most influenced and impacted her life, hospital president Traci Bernard immediately spoke of her parents:

“My parents were the type of people that never told us we couldn’t do anything, they always told all three of us we could be whatever we wanted to be. They didn’t have the money to put us through college, but always expected it… [not going] wasn’t even an option for any of the three of us. And they didn’t settle for mediocrity in anything; if you did something, you had to give it your best, and you couldn’t quit mid-season… How my parents raised us was really the foundation of who I am today and how I lead today.”

Bernard also mentioned a sixth grade teacher who never let her slide by with minimum effort. “He didn’t let me get away with that, he expected more and more from me.” She went on to explain that she’s had countless other mentors throughout her career, noting, “I’m a firm believer that you’re always learning, so my mentors are people today as well.”
