Traci Bernard’s Excitement for the Future of Healthcare

Today we’re featuring two final segments excerpted from the interview with Traci Bernard, president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Southlake, Texas. In these segments Bernard shares some of her passion and excitment for healthcare, including some specific opportunities she sees for the future.

She begins by talking about how hospitals have long been in the business of treating the ill, and how one significant opportunity for the future is a shift toward more preventative care, instead of waiting until people are already sick.

“We’ve always been about treating the ill, so I really think our opportunities, whether it’s from a cost perspective or what’s right for the patient, is to treat the paitient before they get sick… what can we do to promote health and wellness in our community?”

She continued, “We’ve come a long way in healthcare, but I think we can do even a better job of helping people understand that it’s small modifications in their lives that can make big differences.”

In the last segment we are featuring from the interview, Bernard briefly touches on her desire to do some public speaking in order to help spread the passion for healthcare that she herself has long felt.

“I think we need to revive excitement and enthusiasm and passion in the workplace again; I’d love to be part of that and to help people get excited about what they’re doing and find that passion.”
