Today we continue featuring segments from the exclusive interview with Dan Neufelder, founder & CEO of the Neufelder Consulting Group. In today’s segment Neufelder discusses what he calls his “million-dollar idea list” and the story behind what this list is.
AHL founder and CEO Dan Nielsen begins the segment by mentioning the VHA (now Vizient) affinity group meetings Neufelder used to attend as a hospital COO, and asks Neufelder to relate a particular story about his experience participating in those meetings.
Neufelder then explains how he challenged himself to find “a million dollars of value” while at the meetings, noting:
“You get out of things what you put into them, and a lot of times what you get out is what you are looking for. If you are not looking for something, you will never find it.”
With this in mind, Neufelder listened to his colleagues discuss successes, projects, and initiatives and wrote down these ideas, estimating how much each idea would be worth if implemented in his own organization. It wasn’t hard to realize there was immense value to be found!
Take his advice—the next time you have the opportunity to learn from the best in your field, attend the meeting with purpose and challenge yourself to find your own “million-dollar list!”
