It’s not a question we often think about, but in order to accomplish what you want, you must know what you are striving toward. What habits do you have, and are these habits leading you to the desired results? Your legacy is determined by the actions you put into place each day.
Many leaders featured on America’s Healthcare Leaders have commented on the legacies they hope to leave, including the latest post featuring Joel Allison. In the two segments above this topic is discussed by two additional healthcare executives.
In the first segment, Dan Neufelder, founder & CEO of Neufelder Consulting Group, gives 5 pieces of advice to healthcare leaders, including: “Think long term, but act today.” He also references the four basic human needs, “To live, to love, to learn, and to leave a legacy.” Your everyday choices will determine the legacy you leave.
In the second segment, Bruce Brandes, founder and CEO of Lucro, remarks on what he hopes will be his legacy, noting, “I would focus more on the way in which I have conducted myself.” Brandes is actively making the choices to make sure that every individual with whom he has the opportunity to work would willingly choose to do so again.
As this year comes to a close and you take time for personal reflection, consider what legacy your actions are leading you toward. Is it the legacy you want to leave?
